In light of the major medical doctor shortages predicted...something like 200,000 by 2020- this is a timely project. Every "little thing" helps and of course, we have a lot of bright and compassionate youth right here in SE Michigan that will make fantastic physicians. Another way to move Michigan into a realm aside from automotive and into medical fields and technology. This is a great move and Oakland University coupling with Beaumont Hospitals is brilliant for all involved! Especially, for my community. I hope when my son applies to medical school this will be his top choice. Just makes sense. It’s one of the best ideas to manifest in Michigan! In light of the

While I agree it is admirable to address the shortage of doctors in an area, a new medical school will not do the job unless there are additional residency spots created, or if more of the local residency spots are restricted to US or Michigan residents, so simply adding a school will do nothing to help with the shortage if there isn't a corresponding change in residency slots or slot availability. And if they want more doctors in that area, perhaps more residency programs? Or restricting the residencies available to IMGs who won't stay in the area anyways?
