Luckily, there are some great advisors on this board, that I encourage anyone interested in a particular field to email directly, most of them have recently gone through the match and residency and can offer advice on how it worked exactly rather than hearing from Joe Shmoh about how one guy told me this and thats what I am engraving on my skin so i never forget. Bottom line...find mentors, find more than one, compare and contrast what each has to say, and then make your own decision....THAT is what being a physician is all about, don't be a sheep and regurgitate! Working with an advisor can be a waste of time, especially when find out that one is not on your side, . . . doesn't give good information, just talks in generalities. You can't and shouldn't rely on mentors or advisors to helpl you chart the course of anything in life, stakes are too high and quality of advisors and mentors varies greatly. Become your own advisor or mentor!
