When should I take the MCAT, if I am applying for Fall 2011. But I will be done with all my pre-requisites Summer 2009. Then I am starting the BSN program Fall 2009. So I want to apply to medical school on my third semester of the nursing program it will be Fall 2010.

Thank you

If you're a strong candidate, apply LATE. You may end up competing for fewer slots, but you'd be shining in front of a foil of slackers, late-comers, procrastinators, etc...

Good information. However, one topic which I think deserves more attention, is in regards to the letter of recommendation file. Many applicants are unable to submit their secondaries in a timely fashion simply because their letter writers procrastinate, or they weren't notified about timelines, etc. This is one thing that can greatly hinder an applicant's timeline.

I'm applying for DO school this fall and just found out it takes 4-6 weeks for AACOMAS to get my info out to the schools I chose. My application isn't quite done yet and I don't take the MCAT until July 18 - am I totally screwed as far as the early application mantra?????????

I agree 100% with the comments on EDP. This option benefits only the institution, and there are ZERO advantages to the applicant. I was a very strong applicant to medical school and choice the EDP option at my state school, only to get strung out well into October and be rejected. I spent the rest of the application cycle interviewing at schools where I was told "the class is already full, and you are interviewing for a rank on our waitlist". Not cool. I actually did get in to an excellent medical school off of the waitlist the following June. But it was in another state, and I had to make a lot of adjustments in 2 months' time that I could have been working on throughout my senior year of college. Plus, and this is perhaps the worst part, was being on edge through my whole senior year when I might have been relaxing with multiple admissions, and just enjoying my last year of college. Let me reiterate: DO NOT APPLY THROUGH THE EARLY DECISION PROGRAM.

Informative article, but as far as the extracurriculars I would add that the bulk of the *meaningful* activities won't occur until late in your undergraduate years. This also means late in the application cycle if you are applying while still in undergrad. Medical schools know this and don't expect that section of your application to be complete. This gives you a perfect opportunity to bring these experiences up in your interviews.

For 2009, I think it is June 4th. It's pretty much always in the first week of June.

For the 2009 applications, what is considered "early"? I know you said June 1st, but you also said that it varies year-to-year. Where can I find out the deadlines for this application cycle?
