ePocrates
Epocrates RX - the free one - includes the full drug database . But unlike the commercial versions - Epocrates Pro and better yet, Essentials - it does not include the diagnosis, symptoms, or infectious diseases tools. The tabs for these tools show up on the free version, but tapping them results in a message about how you need to pay for the commercial version. 1st year students will want primarily the drug information so at least for now, they seem to be satisfied with the free version.
If you want a clinical decision-making tool (which is what the diagnosis/symptom/infectious diseases tools try to be), download First Consult, or InfoRetriever. These are not drug references, but databases that help a clinician get answers for example, about diagnostic questions, treatment options, or a procedure.
