What impressed you positively?:

Good case mix with great peds and really strong integrated ICUs. Also work at the VA and county hospitals with Stanford attendings so you get a nice mix of styles. Fellowships are abundant here - they have the standard ones and a bunch of other researchy years you can do if you have academic interests, and if they don't have a fellowship that suits your needs it seems like you can make one up. Place oozes with money, new sim center is gorgeous and has all the latest toys. Great ties to groups in the area so you can easily stay whether you do academics or PP. The geography speaks for itself. Currently all spots are advanced, but next cycle there will be some categorical spots too, and they have a deal set up with Santa Clara for transitional years. Residents work hard but are happy and a smart, close bunch. Report as inappropriate

What impressed you negatively?:

I have no family, friends, etc in CA and felt very out of place here - it was strongly hinted by some of the residents that the program looks for people with at least some sort of tie to the area. If you're from the east coast, be ready to explain why you would move west. Palo Alto is suburban and really expensive, which affects both your lifestyle and the patients you'll see. How was your interview day? Please summarize.:

Hotel in downtown Palo Alto is no longer free but has big discounted rate and is really nice for the price. Dinner at a nice restaurant near the hotel night before. Day starts with chair and PD talks, you interview with one of them and then three other faculty. Tour, lunch with residents, out around 2 or 3. Report as inappropriate
