"BCM has been doing the 1.5 year basic science, 2.5 year clinicals curriculum for years now. It is extremely student friendly and lends itself to a lot of flexibility, which is very helpful for succeeding in USMLE prep and residency planning."
"1.5 year preclinicals, flexibility in scheduling, dedication to teaching of attendings, amazing clinical facilities"
"The 1.5 year pre-clinical curriculum is amazing. Exceptional Step 1 scores prove it. World-class faculty and classmates. School is surrounded by renowned hospitals."
"Superior basic science and clinical curriculum. 3 afternoons off per week, and only 1.5 yr of basic sciences. AMAZING faculty within a structured mentoring program. Also, the class composition is mostly relaxed and easy going yet studious."
"Though the student body is overall collaborative, BCM still has a very competitive atmosphere. Maybe this is the case wherever you go, but I've always felt that expectations from faculty are set extremely high."
"cost of parking!"
"The parking. But the public transportation system is adequate if you leave reasonably close."
"The summers here can get hot and muggy since it is tropical weather."

"Some of them have mandatory attendance, particularly during first year, such as anatomy lab and other group-based afternoon experiences 1-2x per week. The lectures, however, are 8-12 and attendance is never required."
"Infrequently. Regular lecture, anatomy lab, and histology lab are not mandatory. There are afternoon small groups twice a week that are required."
"Only mandatory for the physical exam course, clinical preceptor, and problem solving course. Lecture attendance is optional."
"only 2 classes- the problem based learning (IPS), and the clinical skills one- (PPS). Both are only one afternoon a week each. Everything else is taped and online."
"Helpful review book ideas are past down from class to class but in general, you get the material you need through the lectures. Reading is up to you (i.e. if it helps you understand better, you can check out books that previous classes have found useful)."
"None are necessary. I found the texts helpful for physiology though."
"Very few. Just the typical staples of medicine."
"Almost none. First Aid is an unofficial required book. Thumbs up to the admin for this."

"n/a BCM is in the med center. I think the only place designated for housing by BCM was bought by one of the private hospitals for development. Off-campus housing within five minutes is plentiful and cheap, though."

"Fantastic. There are a few poor lecturers, but they are few and far between - and definitely outweighed by the number of fantastic, dedicated, hilarious professors who prepared us incredibly well for our clinicals and Step 1."
"Wonderful. Approachable, kind, and supportive."
"AMAZING! Many lectures I feel like I am watching an action packed summer blockbuster. Of course you get one or two who put you to sleep, but overall the lecturers are great!"
"Honors, high pass, pass, marginal pass, fail. Whether or not the class is ranked is a complicated question, so I'll address that here. First, we do have AOA, so ranking is kept internally for this purpose. Second, rank is kept internally to determine what your final word on your MSPE letter for residency will be. Some schools say what percentile you rank in your class; BCM is more subtle and has words (outstanding, excellent, etc.) that represent percentiles but they are very brought groupings (i.e. the middle 50% of the class all has the same word, so you can delineate between 25%ile and 74%ile. It's more subtle so supposedly less pressure."

"You put in preferences. I've been pretty fortunate in getting the sequence I've wanted but it might be hit or miss. They try very hard to enable you to have your top choices."
"Submit your preferences for four possible schedules each year. Registrar does their best to accommodate. Required: medicine, surgery, neuro, family medicine, psych, ob/gyn, peds, and a sub-internship"
"It varies a lot on rotations but in general you're responsible for pre-rounding on a 1-4 patients in the morning (including checking EMR), checking in with the resident in charge of your patients before rounding with attending, presenting the patient on rounds, and then writing a note on your patient in the chart."
"Depends on the rotation and your attending. On psych, you pretty much act like a sub-i - you're in charge of writing the notes and coming up with the treatment plan for your patients. On some family rotations, it can be a lot like shadowing. Generally, you can have all the responsibilities you feel ready to ask for."
"All have advantages and disadvantages. Ben Taub - county hospital. Older facilities, but EPIC EMR is great and you have a lot more responsibility (great learning opportunities). Methodist/St. Luke's: great private institutions, beautiful facilities, but less responsibility TCH: enough said. MD Anderson: technically UT's; we only rotate here on a few rotations. But it's amazing as well."
"It varies. We have a private hospital, county hospital, and VA hospital, and we get experience rotating at all three. This gives us a lot of breadth in our training, as we get exposure to a very diverse group of patients."
"Depends on the hospital. At BT, expect a larger proportion of uninsured and minority patients. Spanish is very valuable here!"

"Our match goes pretty well each year. It helps that we have had the highest average STEP I score in the nation the past several years."
"Extremely well. Our match list this year was outstanding. Many students choose to stay in Texas, but those who wanted competitive programs on the East and West coast had no problems getting them."
"Reportedly very well."
