School Overview
Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore (Singapore) Fast Facts
School Info
Duke-NUS Medical School is a unique collaboration between two top universities: Duke University in the United States and the National University of Singapore (NUS). Our mission is to bring the American style of medical education to Singapore in order to prepare the next generation of physician scientists and leaders. Our students receive clinical, leadership, and research training preparing them to advance medicine through new scientific discoveries and compassionate clinical care.
Curriculum
Duke-NUS offers an innovative and rigorous medical education program with a distinctive focus on research, aimed at building leaders and scholars in medical research, education, and patient care. Duke-NUS is a medical school in Southeast Asia that follows the American model of post-baccalaureate medical education in which students begin their medical studies after earning a bachelor's degree. Duke-NUS offers a unique opportunity for students with potential to excel in the field of medicine and biomedical sciences. Students who successfully complete the course of study and fulfill all requirements will be awarded a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from Duke University and the National University of Singapore. The Duke-NUS curriculum, based on that of the world-renowned Duke University School of Medicine, is vastly different from that of other MD training programs even within the United States. Our students cover basic science in one year instead of two. They care for patients a full year earlier than their peers at other medical schools. Most importantly, they devote an entire year to independent scholarship and research.
Facilities
The Clinical Performance Centre (CPC) at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore is a simulated clinical environment that provides the opportunity for the medical students to learn and practice their clinical skills in a non-threatening environment using task simulators and standardized patients. With the challenging nature of medicine, it is vital that medical students acquire essential clinical knowledge and skills in a hands-on environment. Our medical students will be trained at Singapore General Hospital and KK Women's and Children's Hospital, both premier teaching hospitals in Singapore, with outstanding patients and faculty. There could be opportunities for some students to be on student clerkships and rotations elsewhere.
