School Info
A new medical school for the whole of Northern Ontario, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine is a joint initiative of Laurentian University, Sudbury and Lakehead University, Thunder Bay. With main campuses in Thunder Bay and Sudbury, the School has multiple teaching and research sites distributed across Northern Ontario, including large and small communities. NOSM contributes to improving the health of people in Northern Ontario.
Curriculum
Our innovative undergraduate or MD program involves students learning in small groups, much of the time in distributed community-based learning sites supported by broadband communication information technology. The curriculum is clinically driven, while ensuring students gain a strong grounding in core knowledge and skills including the basic sciences.
Facilities
NOSM has two state-of-the-art research labs, one at its east campus at Laurentian University in Sudbury, and one at its west campus at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. In addition, the School works in partnership with universities, private sector organizations, and health centres across the North to facilitate research initiatives which have a strong focus on the health issues of Northern communities.
