School Info

The University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry is located on the Health Sciences Center campus in Oklahoma City just east of Lincoln Boulevard at Stanton L. Young Boulevard (12th St.). It is one of the newer dental schools in the country. The first dental hygiene class graduated in 1972 and the first dental class in 1976. The present clinical sciences building was dedicated in 1976. The primary mission of the College is the education of highly competent dental professionals. From the very beginning, the faculty, programs, and facilities emphasized clinical dentistry. While research and scholarly activity have grown over the years, clinical dentistry remains the strength in both the educational and patient care arenas.

Curriculum

Facilities

Basic science courses are conducted in the Basic Sciences Education Building, a shared facility with the College of Medicine and the College of Pharmacy. Some classes such as anatomical science and microbiology/immunology are taken with medical students. And dental and pharmacy students take physiology together. Nevertheless, space is devoted specifically to dentistry in modules conducive to small group interaction. Instruction in preclinical technique is conducted in a state of the art laboratory in the Dental Clinical Sciences Building which was designed to simulate working at chairside, thus facilitating the students` transition from the laboratory to the treatment of patients. Clinical instruction takes place in the modern 112,000 square-foot Dental Clinical Sciences Building which includes 180 general practice operatories for student use and additional operatories for oral diagnosis, radiography, oral surgery, pediatric dentistry, graduate programs and residencies. There are three 88-seat, well equipped classrooms and several seminar rooms in addition to clinical laboratories, research laboratories and faculty offices. Student space is ample and includes locker rooms, a commons area with lunch facilities, a study/reading room, student store, laundry and workrooms for student organizations.

About the LizzyM Score

LizzyM, SDN Moderator and medical school admissions committee member, is the inventor of the LizzyM Score. The score allows you to see if you are a competitive applicant at a given school. If your LizzyM Score is far below or above the average, you may not be a good fit. If your score is far below, your application may be screened out due to numerical cutoffs. If it is far above, the school may assume they are your “safety” school and that you won’t attend if they offer an acceptance. This score should be used only as a guide to help you select schools and is not a guarantee of acceptance at any school. If you use this as your sole criteria to select medical schools to apply to, you don’t deserve to get in anyway.
