School Info

Chicago Medical School is proud to have educated physicians, scientists and researchers for more than 90 years. We are committed to continuing this tradition well into the future and, in doing so, plan to serve our primary mission of providing our students with a comprehensive medical education while preparing them for a career and life of excellence in medicine. Recognizing that our students will be responsible for the health of future generations, we are especially pleased that our School is located within a health sciences University which serves as a national leader in interprofessional education.

Curriculum

The Office for Medical Curriculum designs, schedules, and evaluates the CMS curriculum. Working with the Educational Affairs Committee of faculty and students, this office implements the CMS curriculum by scheduling classes, gathering student and faculty evaluations, and analyzing student performance against national standards. The Curriculum Office places major value on the coordination and integration of all the curricular elements.

Facilities

Accreditors who visit RFU consistently take note of our outstanding academic facilities. Our labs and classrooms don’t just look nice, they’re geared toward helping our students learn and ultimately be successful in their fields. Each space has been set up to support the variety of academic approaches our students encounter, from simulation-based learning and practice to problem-based, case-based, and collaboration-based projects. Our network of six simulation labs creates a Virtual Health System on campus, giving Interprofessional teams of students opportunities to practice over 10,000 simulations each year. Simulation labs improve the quality of care and reduce clinical error when our graduates enter their careers. The Gross Anatomy Laboratory provides a complete dissection experience. Each dissection station is equipped with a 23-inch high definition monitor and computer providing access to GALEN (Gross Anatomy Laboratory Electronic Network). The Centennial Learning Center, built in 2013 to mark the University’s 100-year heritage, was designed for Interprofessional, team-based learning opportunities. Hands-on labs at RFU include out-patient and in-patient, operating room and procedures, pathology, OB-GYN, and a pharmacy skills lab.

What are your suggestions for the admissions office?

"Better/more communication with interviewees pre- and post-interview." More from this Member | Report Response

"To give us an applicant portal so we can check our status" More from this Member | Report Response

"They're doing a great job, especially considering the huge volume of apps they have to go through. Everyone was great - from responding to emails pre-interview, to how smoothly interview day went, to just being welcoming and frank about everything throughout." More from this Member | Report Response

"Keep building up the reputation of Rosalind Franklin! Doing a great job." More from this Member | Report Response

"Make the season end earlier and finish IIs earlier. While I'm honored to have been extended an interview and enjoyed that day thoroughly, I'm now sort of stuck, unsure whether I will need to apply again while the AMCAS/AACOMAS are already underway, and am unsure whether to start working on my backup plans should reapplying not work out. It's frustrating to have the next year+ of my life hanging in the balance much later than other schools." More from this Member | Report Response

"The day was unorganized, we spent so much time trying to get everyone interviewed and there was no food. Every other morning interview I have gone to has offered some snacks. And after three hours of waiting to finally be done with my interviews, I was shaking for food. Because it took so long to be done with the interviews, we got a shortened version of the tour and I had to stop eating before I was done. My second interviewer was plain nasty. She had be at the point of tears for no good reason except to berate me. I know for a fact I am not the only one she has done that too. I felt overall that the interviewers made their opinions too well known, which I think is inappropriate in an interview when concerning topics so polarizing. Other schools have provided avenues for dealing with inappropriate interviewers, but CMS made no mention of what to do in that case, so I kept quiet. I really liked the prospect of going to school close to home and close to Chicago, but frankly, the interview day completely changed my mind." More from this Member | Report Response

"My interview did not seem to have read my application. All the questions were very general...not tricky...even border line tricky. However, it thought it was incredibly unprofessional to not know anything about the applicant. She asked at one point, "Do you play a musical instrument?" No! About the LizzyM Score

LizzyM, SDN Moderator and medical school admissions committee member, is the inventor of the LizzyM Score. The score allows you to see if you are a competitive applicant at a given school. If your LizzyM Score is far below or above the average, you may not be a good fit. If your score is far below, your application may be screened out due to numerical cutoffs. If it is far above, the school may assume they are your “safety” school and that you won’t attend if they offer an acceptance. This score should be used only as a guide to help you select schools and is not a guarantee of acceptance at any school. If you use this as your sole criteria to select medical schools to apply to, you don’t deserve to get in anyway.
