The St. Martinus College, established in 1842, was the first school of the Netherlands Antilles. In 2002 the Martinus complex was purchased from the Sisters of Roosendaal and went through a complete renovation. The St. Martinus campus is located very centrally at Scherpenhuevel in Willemstad; it is one of the island's prestigious monuments. By the end of 2002 St. Martinus University established itself as a University with a focus on Medicine and Health sciences. In January 2003 the University proudly opened its doors to the first students and thus officially began its medical program.In doing this the St. Martinus University continues a well established tradition of quality education as well as providing one of the finest educational environments.

St. Martinus University is located in a historical building which formally housed one of the oldest primary schools on the island. St. Martinus University complex is definitely one of the jewels on the island. Classes at the university are taught in English. Our fully air-conditioned classrooms are equipped with a variety of audio-visual equipment including televisions, LCD projectors, flex camera, and overhead projectors. Students complete laboratory requirements in smaller groups in adjacent facilities. The campus at St. Martinus University includes a full computerized testing center, where students gain experience completing electronic USMLE-style exams throughout their Basic Sciences training. The latest computer and internet technologies are available throughout the campus and are accessible 24 hours a day. Students are strongly advised to either bring their personal laptop computer or purchase one. The purchase hereof can be arranged through the University. Basically in today's medical education, a computer is as essential to a doctor as is a stethoscope. The library is located in the main hall; open 24 x 7. The library has a wide assortment of books and internet connections are available throughout.
