Saba University School of Medicine (Saba, Caribbean) Fast Facts
School Info
SABA University School of Medicine is a nonprofit foundation that was established to provide a comprehensive basic science and clinical medicine education leading to completion of a Doctor of Medicine degree. Enrollment is open to all persons regardless of race, national origin, religion, sex, or age, who wish to devote the extensive time and effort necessary to practice medicine
Curriculum
The curriculum incorporates standards of academic and clinical instruction, which parallel those US and Canadian medical schools. This curriculum has resulted in an excellent residency placement rate at ACGME accredited residencies. All classes are taught in English by experienced medical educators from the United States and abroad.
Facilities
he first five semesters comprising the Basic Science program are taught on the island of Saba by qualified M.D. medical school professors who are dedicated to providing the highest quality instruction possible. The excellent student-professor ratio of 6:1 provides ample opportunity for students to interact with the teaching faculty. After successful completion of the Basic Science program, students enter the Clinical Medicine portion of their medical degree program. The Clinical Medicine component consists of 72 weeks of clinical rotations through various medical specialties in hospitals within the United States and abroad who have affiliated with SABA University School of Medicine. SABA University also has affiliations with teaching hospitals in the Netherlands-Antilles making it possible for Antillean graduates to complete their entire Medical Degree within the same country. During these clinical rotations students will work directly with physicians and hospital staff, conducting physical examinations, history taking, case presentations, laboratory analysis, and attending workshops, conferences and grand rounds.
