"How do you feel about your academic performances?"
"Tell us about yourself"
"Besides the location (because it's close to home), why UABSO as opposed to another school?"
"They didn't really ask many questions. It was more of a "tell me about yourself" format where I directed the conversation."
"Tell us about yourself?"
"Why optometry?"

"Was there anything you saw during shadowing that you did not like/any negative experiences?"
"Tell me about yourself"

"The staff and interviewers are so kind. Genuinely super nice people! They made the interview day very low stress."
"I was extremely impressed by how kind everyone was, and I was impressed by how they really did feel like a family there"
"The facilities, family atmosphere, research opportunities."
"How much they care about their students success."
"The family feel! I felt like I was already part of the family. Everyone was so welcoming. All of the students I talked to both while there and others I have talked to on my own each LOVE going to school there."
"The facilities such as the eye care center."
"The very very hospitable admissions staff, the faculty who seemed very nice"
"I seriously was blown away by the clinic, staff, and faculty. I just felt like everyone really, really liked me personally. There are 2 interviews... one that is one-on-one with Dr. Simon -- who by the way is awesome -- (open file), and one that is in a group usually with a student and 2 professors or optometrists or researchers (closed file). And while both interviews are still addressing significant questions, the atmosphere is incredibly relaxed & comfortable."
"The school, clinic, and staff."
"everbody is very friendly, and very proud of the school, praised to the president of the school a lot."
"The easy going attitude of everyone at the school."
"The faculty was very impressive. UAB has top notch faculty compared to other schools I have visited"
"EVERYONE was SOOOO NICE!!!"
"Everyone was really friendly and tried to make us feel comfortable. The facilities were really nice."
"Not the school's fault, but it was a little awkward coming without a guest (parent, s/o, etc). There are some waiting periods where it would be nice to have someone to talk to, but I just reviewed my notes/looked through handouts instead!"
"Nothing!"
"nothing really."
"That none of the students seemed to enjoy being there"
"I really don't like the location of the school. I also don't like how nobody lives on campus... mainly because there are no on campus graduate living centers. These are both making me reconsider the school."
"The school locates right at downtown Birmigham , not very atractive area, lots of old building with lots of drawing..."
"School is located right in the middle of downtown."
"I was not too impressed with Birmingham or the surrounding areas"
"nothing really"
"Nothing."
"The dress code (most applicants were "elevated" business casual) and the schedule"
"Try to not be so stressed."
"I wish i had known how kind and easy going they would have been, just to help with the nerves of going into the interview."
"It was way more casual than I was expecting."
"That you have an open file section that is one-on-one, Then you have a closed file section that involves two people asking you questions. Also, my interview was on Zoom because of the pandemic."
"I knew ahead of time, but just know that there is a open file one-on-one interview, and another closed file interview with two other professors."

"UAB was fantastic! Everyone was very friendly."
"There was an open file interview as well as a closed file interview. Both were very relaxed."
"I love the school and the people, but don't like that I would probably have to commute close to 15-20 minutes to get to class every day... and I don't know how much Birmingham has to offer."
"It is very obvious why it is one of the most prestigious optometry schools."
"just prepare the general questions and be confident, you really have to sell your self in the closed file interview"
"Very laid back and conversational."
"I really enjoyed the interview day. The people everywhere made me very welcome. Some of the people seemed a little too proud and really showed off their school. Tour was nice and the two students were very helpful in answering questions, all the faculty was great. Dr. Simon very nice. Ended up talking about travel and religion during the open file interview part. Just be yourself and don't sound too rehearsed or fake, people can see right through that when you are having a conversation like interview."
"The experience was great. Everyone went out of their way to make me feel comfortable."

"I think including the schedule in the email inviting the applicant to their interview would help, even if it hasn't been finalized, just so they know what to expect. Otherwise it was great!"
"The dual degree program information could be more accessible online."
"Nothing really."
"Allow guests to stay for lunch. Also, make sure the tour guide is not saying negative things about the school."
"Provide a better lunch and allow guests to partake"
"I wish we had a longer period of time to decide whether or not we want to attend the school. We're given about 1 month, but it flys by when you're trying to consider EVERYTHING."
"They sent me an interview calendar day and area information just 2-3 days before the actual intervie"
What is one of the specific questions they asked you (question 1)?
