All students in the class take the same blocks together. Competency exams are administered following each organ block, covering course content, as well as ethics, professionalism, clinical skills and communication skills. Grades are reported for ethics, professionalism, clinical skills and communication skills after completion of Blocks 4 and 6. Students are required to complete two autopsies during Phase I. Autopsies will be scheduled by the student with the Pathology Department. Both autopsies must be completed by the end of the Transitions Block. Phase II comprises the required clinical clerkships in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Surgery, as well as Continuity Clinic and Perspectives in Medicine (PIM). Students rotate through the clerkships in groups of approximately 18-22. The Office of Medical Student Affairs distributes information regarding scheduling prior to the end of Phase I via class meetings and email. Phase III continues the clinical component of the curriculum. Phase III involves Clinical and Non-Clinical electives, and sub-internships to satisfy specific credit requirements.
