School Overview
Western University of Health Sciences College of Podiatric Medicine Fast Facts
School Info
Pursuing a DPM degree at Western University of Health Sciences offers students a small, private, health-focused environment which fosters interprofessional learning with other health professions. In many cases, students will learn alongside medical students in our well-regarded College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP). Students receive an introduction to early clinical training beginning the first year which will help to accelerate professional and communication skills, and they will also have access to new podiatric medical and surgical residencies being developed with our clinical partners. WesternU has a long-standing university-wide humanistic tradition of treating patients as people first; treating students as colleagues; and fostering camaraderie among students as well as outstanding student support services, including tutoring and disability resources. WesternU's College of Podiatric Medicine is fully accredited through the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) and is committed to providing its students all the support they need to succeed academically and professionally
Curriculum
The groundbreaking curriculum is founded on a new approach to podiatric medicine based on real world case studies, non-textbook critical thinking, problem solving, and skill building in an interactive team approach. Our four-year program allows students to learn with an integrated team of health professionals in a part of the country with a wealth of clinical opportunities. This curriculum was developed by an internationally renowned team with over 85 years of podiatric medical experience: Drs Lawrence Harkless, Lester Jones, and Robert Christman, who are recognized for their leadership in the diabetic foot, bio-mechanics and radiology fields.
Facilities
Western University is a thriving academic health center spread out over 22 acres in Pomona, CA. The main campus currently includes 15 major buildings and construction has begun on two new building projects totaling an investment of more than $100 million. These buildings will be shared by students in optometry, dentistry, osteopathic and podiatric medicine. The design fosters interprofessional education and patient care.
