"Thought and wrote out answers to 10 very common questions: why Albany, why medicine, what are your strengths, weaknesses, where do you see yourself in 10 years, etc." Report Response
"Admissions staff was super-friendly. My second interviewer, Dr. B, is the man. He's a former Albany grad, obviously bright, a pediatrician in a community hospital, and is really in medicine for all the right reasons. Gave me hope that the next 7-9 years doesn't really have to suck the life and idealism out of you. If a school is churning out great people like him, the school is obviously doing something right. Also, the admissions office got back to me very quickly (within two weeks I had received an acceptance offer.) " Report Response
"Both positive and negative: when asked why they came to Albany, most of the student hosts were very honest saying they only got into Albany, although many were waitlisted at several other schools. Honesty and humility, and having a sense of privelige just having the opportunity to study and practice medicine is impressive. But I'm afraid that many of the students will have a slight inferiority complex, that might pervade the school with a sense a mediocrity. Just my honest thoughts which may be totally inaccurate. "Albany is a pretty miserable city during the wintertime -- wish I had visited in the fall or spring, when upstate NY is much prettier. " Report Response
"A decent school, with a good vibe from the faculty, admissions staff, and students. Having actually attended med school elsewhere, the students here really are more relaxed and altruistic than most. The facility is fine -- I like how the hospital is connected with to the med school. If I come here, it will be because of how awesome the people are, especially the staff and the faculty. Enjoyed the visit. Be prepared for a wide range of interviwers -- some are tough cookies and ask difficult ethical questions, others are super-cool behind their facade and will challenge you but also really do care about their interviewees."
